Starting my VCDX Journey
So here I am on Sunday 27 March 2022. Its lovely nice weather outside and Ive actually manged to fully relax for once, taken it easy this weekend.
Time on my hands
One thing on my mind for years is when rather than if to do my VCDX. There are many reasons for not having done anything up to now; life getting in the way, other interests as well as changing role etc.
So today after a nice walk in the morning by the local lake and then coming back to do some exercise I found myself in a place I rarely seem to find myself. With time on my hands to research.
After returning from holiday recently I had already decided I would start the process of studying, applying for VCDX. I was quite happy to see that there had been an internal presentation at work that I was able to watch back showing the process and encouraging people to go for it. With this, my mind was made up.
Taking some baby steps
Today I started to look at a number of blogs from people who have gone through this process before. With only 295 people with their VCDX certification (at time of writing) the amount of blogs is manageable to read.
I homed in on a couple of things I wanted to look into further immediately:
- Join the public slack group
- Get a mentor and discuss my plan for the design (I do have an idea)
- Start on the design
- Work on my weak areas – there are a few.
As a current architect I feel that there are some things I can do well and I can be confident in. Other areas to improve would be on networking.
So here I am now typing this up on the day Ive made a start. I feel good and positive. As of now I feel I can overcome issues and dont yet feel daunted by the challenge ahead.
So here goes. Tomorrow is a new day and when I plan to put the wheels in motion. Exciting!
