Deploy vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager (vRSLCM) 8
Here the process of deploying vRSLCM version 8 into the Terataki lab is documented.
Preparation
As always create DNS entries with both A and PTR records for the required appliances.
The executable file for vRSLCM is downloaded from My VMware. The file is located on the ISO and can be run from different OS.
Process
First mount the vra-lcm-installer.iso file and then browse to the folder vrlcm-ui-installer inside. Choose your operating system and browse to the corresponding operating system folder. In the lab a Windows OS is used. Double Click on the exe file contained within
lcm-installer\vrlcm-ui-installer\win32
The first screen of the wizard opens and allows either a migration from an earlier version or a new Install. Here click install.
Within the install workflow we start at the introduction. Click next to continue.
Agree to the EULA and if required check the CEIP participation checkbox. Click next.
The next screen allows the user to specify where vRSLCM should be deployed. I chose my MGMT vCenter and enter the relevant authentication details. Click next when complete.
All being well a connection to vCenter will be made and the thumbprint from the certificate will be displayed. If you are happy this is correct click Accept.
We can now select the Datacentre where the product will be deployed. In the lab there is only one: Stockholm. Click next after you select the correct location.
Now the relevant storage will be shown for the resource you selected previously. Again select the preferred location and click next. Be aware that you can select Enable Thin Disk mode if that is appropriate.
We move on now to specifying some of the network details for the vRSLCM appliance. Enter the correct details for your environment and click next.
We are now asked to set a root password that will be used by all the products listed. This can be changed later if required. Click next once complete.
Now we are able to complete the vRSLCM network IP and name. Click next once filled out correctly.
In this version of vRSLCM we can either deploy a new vRealize Identity Manager instance or import an existing one (that should be compatible). Here we don’t have one existing so we will deploy a new one. Fill out the required details and click next.
We could deploy vRealize Automation at the same time as the vRSLCM deployment but here we will skip this and click next.
The final stage of the wizard allows us to check all the details to ensure that they are correct prior to deployment. Once we are happy we can submit the request to deploy.
The Installation Process can be followed on screen by watching the progress bar go through the various stages.
Switching to vCenter we can see that the template required for the appliance is being copied over and the machine will begin to boot and configure.
After some time the installer will finish and present the log location as well as a link to the new appliance. Click on the URL to open.
Once the page opens we can see that the appliance is up and running and we can now log in as Local Admin in order to continue the setup of our vRSLCM instance.
