Configure vSphere Adapter vROPs 6.2
Following on from configuring the vRealize Operations Manager Cluster it is now time to set up the vSphere adapter in order to collect objects and metrics from vCenter.
Configuration of the vSphere Adapter
In the vROPs Product UI browse Administration > Solutions.
Click on the VMware vSphere adapter and then click the Gear Symbol in the bar at the top. (As you roll over the symbol the word Configure will appear in yellow text)
Now, select the vCenter adapter. Give the adapter instance a name as you may ultimately have many listed here i.e One for each of your vCenters. Add a short description if desired. Enter the vCenter FQDN (or IP address) of the vCenter you want to collect from.
Click the green + in order to add a user account that has the required permissions to access vCenter. Once complete click Test Connection.
You should receive a warning that the certificate from vCenter needs to be checked. If you are happy proceed and save settings.
You can leave it as it is or go on to setup the Pythons Actions Adapter. This adapter is what carries out the tasks for remediation on behalf of users in vROPs who have vROPs permissions but may not have explicit permissions in vCenter. In my lab case I use the same account for both collection and actions adapter instances. In some environments these may be two separate accounts. Again Test Connection and Save Settings. Click Next when done.
Now as this is the first time this has been setup I have the chance to define some of the settings for my default policy and how I want monitoring to be configured. In a future post I will edit Policies to change these settings.
- Which objects do you want to be alerted on in your environment?
In my case Im interested in all objects from vSphere. - Which types of alerts do you want to enable.
I am enabling all alerts for Health, Risk and Effiency. - Overcommit CPU in your environment?
As this is a lab I will overcommit CPU. - Configure Memory Capacity based on?
Im taking the default of Memory Consumed. - Enable vSphere Hardening Guide Alerts
Again as this is a lab Im saying no as I dont want to be alerted for hardening issues.
Click Next and then Finish to complete.
Once everything is complete and after a few moments you should see the status of your adapters change to show that Collection State is Collecting and that the Collection Status is Data Receiving.
Give it a few minutes and you will see that the Dashboards on home will start to display information relevant to your environment.
